 LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 27 Jul 2008: Even with good ideas we can came to the evil. McAfee SiteAdvisor system that launched few years ago now fails, analytics report said. This report includes information collected from thousands web sites and many compliants received from web site owners. Below is a short summary of this report.
Since its launch McAfee SiteAdvisor brings clean and good idea of selecting web sites for bad and good. Each web site that McAfee team found has been tested and analized by several factors. First of all, any download on the web site was scanned with AntiVirus software. Next, if web site contained any submission (subscription) form McAfee used separate email to subscribe for it. This is made to tracks emails that came from each subscription separately. And if email sold to spammers its easy to see who did it.
So, the system look great, and indeed it was in the beginning. But big problem came - McAfee had no sales of their almost free SiteAdvisor. And number of staff working on this project was reduced. But more and more web sites remaining in queue for analizing. There is no time for it and no human resources. In the meantime other competitors solutions are growing.
As it came to our attention, currently, McAfee does not analize web sites that already been analized. We wrote an email to McAfee staff and got response that they have millions of web sites in the queue and we should wait. Hold on... World known security company says "wait while we analize it?". How long? Since our request to review our site again more than ONE YEAR PASSED. See?
McAfee SiteAdvisor is now outdated. Its true. If you're site owner and you wish your site to be re-visited by McAfee team you will write an email to them. They will answer "Wait please". And you wait for a year. As we're already waiting, and as on 27 Jul 2008 there is still no changes to our rating at SiteAdvisor (it still have old broken links and old info).
We believe that security software should not update their "bad and good" ratings once per year. Malware can came within one week, and SiteAdvisor will not see it until next "review". Even new product from McAfee Toolkit have the same database and should not be used. We strongly recommend people use other antivirus products which you can find (its not an advertising!) in the Yahoo Directory here.
